Football in the deeper south - part one
Like most Americans, I enjoy watching college and pro football immensely. I happen to be a Penn State, NC State, and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, although I follow the ACC, Big Ten, and the NFL in general.
I also enjoy coaching youth soccer, and treasure our excellent women's professional team, the NC Courage of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). I also look forward to the soccer World Cups - both men's and women's - and hope that this year was a blip in America's absence from the men's field.
However, I want to mention a different football code, which is another of my favorites to watch:
Australian football, and its national professional league, the AFL.
Australian football combines skills from several sports, including football (American), soccer, volleyball, and basketball. It is high scoring, free-flowing, and physical, with tactics, strength, and stamina required throughout the game.
In America, we typically have to watch an AFL game via one of the Fox Sports channels or equivalent. It is worth doing so.
I find the sport very interesting - not perfect, but fascinating and quite enjoyable - and I will offer some thoughts from a marketing, strategy, and leadership standpoint in future posts.
